The Grand Tour of Kyoto · 1338 days ago
Last weekend, Kaori and her cousin Akiko came from Tokushima to visit Kyoto. We did the grand tour, visiting Yasaka Shrine, Maruyama Park, Chion-in, Kenninji, Kiyomizudera and Fushimi-inari. We had dinner at a beer garden on a hotel, and had lunch at a 400 year old noodle restaurant. Overall, quite a good time.

Back to Korea, 2006 · 1409 days ago
At the end of March this year, I decided to take another trip to Korea. This time, I was joined by one of the teachers I used to work with at Kojoike High School, Takae Kirino. We did a tour of the demilitarized zone, met with some of Takae’s Korean friends, and I bought a leather jacket. And of course, we took plenty of pictures.

Miscellanous Kyoto · 1438 days ago
It’s been a while since I updated anything here, so I figured I’d put up a collection of miscellanous pictures from the past few months. Enjoy!

Bonfire of the Buddhists · 1562 days ago
I was recently invited to go to a Buddhist ceremony by my friend in Kyoto. It took place up on Mt. Hiei, among the temples of Enryakuji that have been there for over a thousand years. This particular ceremony was giving thanks for the recent construction of a new temple over near Kobe.
The ceremony was unique in that this is the only time it will ever be done (i.e. not annual), and it involved a great deal of chanting. The main piece of the ceremony involved lighting a bonfire with a flame that has been burning at the temple for the last 1000 years (except when the temple was burned down in 1571). I managed to get a few shots of the ceremony, as well as some movies:
